Ladders are one of the Objects in Craftlings and available right from the start of the game, but there are a few peculiarities. In this guide, you'll see how to manipulate the Craftlings so they do exactly what you want.

If you need more help with the game, you can check out more Craftlings Guides here.

You've probably noticed that Craftlings who climb the ladder from the right exit on the left.

Of course, it also works the other way around. This leads many players to feel like ladders divide the game world in two.

In reality, they function just like the Personal Lift, except that you don't see the Craftlings maintaining their direction while climbing. Well, and that you shouldn't take any heavy materials with you. (Materials with a metallic background can be carried up the ladder. Tool, Weapons and special Goods)

Only Craftlings without a bag can climb a ladder. Heavier materials must be transported to higher levels using a Cargo Lift or Cargo Balloon.

It is usually advisable to build these two next to each other. The entry direction can be adjusted with a crate or a dirt block. Craftlings ignore the ladder if they jump down from a higher position.

This should be consistent behavior and apply to all ladders, cargo lifts, chests, vegetable gardens, and more.

Why was this behavior implemented?

It is an early form of directional control and sorting.

By the way, in combination with "Splitter", you can sift out half of the Craftlings and bring them away from your main route.

Did you know that the initial impulse remains when you step onto the ladder? That's right, Craftlings can also skip floors using the ladder.

To do this, the floor to be skipped simply needs to be deactivated.

Craftlings enter on the lower floor and climb to the top. The entrance always determines the route.

This way, you can also have the Craftlings move up and down in opposite directions form differed floor level.

You can also sort out the "craftlings" if needed.

Disembark them at different ebbs.

Ladders Guide 5.png

There's a setup I'd like to point out.

Barriers and signs function differently in this case. A barrier won't solve the problem if the ladder isn't adjusted correctly.

Here's a hypothetical scenario. It doesn't work in the first image.

Therefore, you have two options:

  1. set the ladder to down mode.
  2. or use a Sign

Do you want to protect your hardworking employees from stupidity after they have climbed the ladder? Or give them a subtle hint?
